After I emaild the x-rays the following feedback was received

Dear Mr. Akatumwa,

Thank you very much for your patience. Our doctors have reviewed your case and we are of the opinion that our treatment would be greatly beneficial to you. Through our treatment you will be able to increase your ability to move your legs significently.

I need you to understand, that recovering from a spinal cord injury is a long term progress. Our therapy takes about 5 weeks. During these 5 weeks you will be able to experience many improvements in your legs strength, sensation and ability to move. Upon discharge, if you follow our treatment plan, you will be gradually able to see more and more improvements. This generally holds on up to 6 months. Once you feel that the improvements become less a second round of treatment could be considered.

It will be a long road, up to one or two years, until you will be able to walk on your own again. And it will ask of you to endure very exhausting rehabilitational therapy. It is a long road but not an impossible one.

During the 5 weeks you will spend in our facilities, we will use the first week to adjust your innerbody environment. You see, stem cells are not like any other kind of medicine. While medications like antibiotica or others have one purpose, and fulfill this purpose once introduced to your body, stem cells are a living thing. Their very first purpose is simple: survive. If we would inject stem cells into your body without proper preparations, the stem cells would just die. During the whole treatment you will receive daily IVs and medications to keep your bodyintern environment adjusted and the stem cells healthy and nourished. Only when the stem cells are healthy they are able to form new and repair damaged neural tissue.

As I mentioned before, daily rehabilitational therapy (physiotherapy for example) is also part of our treatment plan. This should be continued even after discharge.

The expenses for one 5 weeks round of treatment differ from patient to patient acording to their condition, but are at approx. 30.000 USD. This includes lodging for the patient and up to two relatives, medical examinations, doctor consultations, nurse care, 4 stem cell injections (one every week), daily medications, daily rehabilitational therapy and the services of our service team.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me.

Best regards,

MY STORY AND PURPOSE

AKA!

WHO AM I?

I am Kapelwa Akatumwa, Zambian born on the 22 of November 1982 from the family of four, two guys and two ladies. We just lived as a family under one shelter for short. This is because my father died, when I was 1year 8months and my grand parents took me from my mum, who died four year later. For this reason I never called any person father, and never had chance to enjoy motherly love. For my sisters and brother, each one was taken by other relatives.

AFTER THE ACCIDENT

The accident happened at a place which is away from my home town.

We were four of us in the car and only me hard serious injuries, such that I almost died.

I was taken to the near by clinic where, I spent 7days in comer with just a friend taking care of me. We hard nothing on us since the local people got away with all our belonging which is a common trendy in my country, whenever an accident occurs. After which I was transferred to the bigger hospital.

It was only the time when I reached the bigger hospital that I was able to open my eyes, talk and hear. This was the time I was told of what had happened.

From 8th December 2005, I have been the hospital boy up to beginning of September 2007. I was in the hospital for such a long time partly because of the pressure sores and partly because my family members didn’t want to take up on the responsibility of patient (pressure sores) and physically disabled person

LIFE IN THE WHEELCHAIR.

During all this time, my relationship with God was not good at all as I couldn’t understand what I was going on and I rely had many questions, like where is God to let me go through this alone, why did it happened to me and why me only since we where four of us in that car.

Many challenges that go through: – include rejection, not doing things the way I used to do them and depending on people most things I want to. Being in a developing country(Zambia) its difficult to find employment as employers don’t look at what I can do but my disability, and we have no good laws to help me(disabled person) get a job.

MY COMING BACK TO GOD

My life changed when I meat a friend called Heiko, who had time to listen to what had happened to me and then invited me to alive television church program. Then after he told me about the love for God, and two weeks later he took me with him for church service and from then I have been going with him to church with the difficulties of accessing places with the wheelchair, he has been their for and shows me that, even if I am disabled same people still look at me as a person and I look at him as my real brother.

MY GO AND PURPOSE

My plan is to help and be the ambassador for people living with disability in my country.

FRIENDSHIP

April 27 2009
Friendship
It was on this day that I evaluated my relationship with my friends from childhood to this day.
During my evaluation, I used the two local Zambian, commonly known sayings which are:- ukuangala kwachila ulupo (friendship is greater than blood relationship) this goes with the bible reading from Proverbs 18:24 ‘A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother’ and mezi amata mwa sikuka sauna (also blood is thinker than water in English).
Looking back in my life history, I have had many very good friends and same of which I used to feel there way as good as my blood brothers. While same some it was more like for batter for wise.( a wedding saying) the will be there for each other.
For now, I can easily say ‘friend came friend go’ this is very true because same of those good old friends, I no longer know there way about. The good thing on my part is that, I never fought with any of my friend, we might have had a quarrel once or twice but the used to be resolved (usually one could accept to be the loser and we would move on with our normal relationship)
The common reasons for those friends I left behind includes: -
Change of locations, life style and for a few we had to accept to go different way.
Today when look at friendship I put the bible reading from Proverbs 22:24-25 which says ‘Make no friendship with a man given to anger, nor go with a wrathful man, man lest you learn his ways and entangle yourself in a snare’. John 15:12-15 you and I have a greater friend in Jesus.

Keeping a friend

At this time a have noted that keeping a friend requires a number of a thing to be put in place, and includes:-

Adjusting one self to mate the other person’s desires

Creating time for the other person
At times even accepting what you may not understand, hoping to understand it in the near feature.
